Are you feeling lost in life, stressed, not sure what your next move is, feeling a lack of motivation, feeling emotionally numb, you’ve lost that spark, or you simply just don’t know what you’re feeling?
Living life doesn’t come with a manual to be able to navigate all the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations; education, relationships, careers, missed opportunities, etc. There are many reasons why you might feel lost, but there are also many things you can do to find yourself again, find the real and true you.
Just imagine that I had a magic wand and with one tap your life would be good; you’d be fit & healthy, have a spring in your step and a purpose to your life! What is your purpose? What if that magic wand could grant your wish? ………. What came to mind and how can you make that happen without the magic wand? What can you do to start change happening?
Here’s some ideas to get you started on a new path to real freedom & choice, to put you back in control of your life!
Journal: find a notebook and start to write about your journey i.e. Day 1: Feeling hopeful – I AM GOING TO…… change my life / take control / choose my journey / etc.
Positive affirmations: write three down in your journal – positive & present tense and repeat morning & night in front of a mirror looking directly at yourself; you most probably won’t believe them to start with, but very soon you will be amazed to realise that you are starting too, and feel really happy within 😊:
I AM CONFIDENT – I AM LOVEABLE – I AM A GOOD PERSON – I AM……
Healthy Diet: Eat good healthy foods (lots of information online about healthy diets); food plays a huge part in how you feel, so eating clean and healthy will make you feel better within. It is important to keep hydrated with fresh clean water (add sugar free squash if you’re not a water fan). Mild dehydration can make you feel , weak and cause lack of focus.
Exercise: Exercise is the most important part of a plan to manage stress. Exercise every day if possible to control stress and build a strong, healthy body and mind. You may think you don’t have time to exercise when you are stressed, but that is exactly when you need it the most and there are so many choices out there: Run/Jog – Walking – Gym – Yoga – Tai Chi – Martial Arts – anything that gets you moving. You will be able to think better after you have used up those stress hormones. Some people exercise first thing because it gives them more energy and focus for the day ahead of them!
Breathing exercises: these have a variety of benefits for the mind and body, that not only make you healthier, but reduce levels of anxiety and stress as well. You can flip the switch from being stressed to relaxed if you know how to fool your body, because your body can only use the relaxed (Parasympathetic) or emergency (sympathetic) nervous system at any one time, so you can turn the relaxed system on by using active relaxation, like breathing techniques. Examples are: Box breathing – breath in for a count of 6, hold for 6, breath out for 6, hold for 6 and repeat 3 or 4 times, and notice how much better and more relaxed you feel. There are many different techniques, so check some out online.
Sleep: Sleep is an essential and involuntary process without which we cannot function effectively. Sleep plays an important role in mental & physical health. During sleep our whole body is repairing itself; repairing the heart and blood vessels; allowing the mind to process and consolidate the events of the day.
Create a good sleep routine; after a busy day, you will need to wind down before bed. Make sure your room is calm and relaxing, so no TV/laptop/tablet/mobile phones; an hour before sleep turn all electrical technology off, and instead do gentle exercise such as yoga; listen to music or guided meditation; relaxing bath; relax with a good read, but not a thriller or murder mystery!
These are just a few ways to get your mind and body into a better place for moving forward in a healthy and positive way.
Other avenues you could research are therapy, which can help you to navigate past issues leaving you feeling free to make new choices with relationships, careers, education and many more areas of life.
