    What Is Mindfulness?

Staying in the moment – remain in the moment

‘Mindfulness’ is a hot topic in Western psychology: increasingly recognised as an effective way to reduce stress, increase self-awareness, enhance emotional intelligence, and effectively handle painful thoughts and feelings.

Although mindfulness has only recently been embraced by Western psychology, it is an ancient practice found in a wide range of Eastern philosophies, including Buddhism, Taoism and Yoga. Mindfulness involves consciously bringing awareness to your here-and-now experience with openness, interest, and receptiveness. Jon Kabat-Zinn, a world authority on the use of mindfulness training in the management of clinical problems, defines it as:  “Paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.”  Mindfulness is about waking up, connecting with ourselves, and appreciating the fullness of each moment of life. Kabat-Zinn calls it, “The art of conscious living.”  It is a profound way to enhance psychological and emotional resilience, and increase life satisfaction.

    The Benefits of Mindfulness

    • Non-Judgmental: Allows people to formulate their own answers.
    • Self-awareness: Physical, mental & emotional wellbeing. To be connected to yourself, to others and to the world around you.
    • Positivity instead of negativity.
    • Being aware of what’s happening moment to moment. Paying attention on purpose in the present moment – totally aware of what is happening now.
    • Happiness in life: choosing to be positive – enjoying every minute of life. Paying attention to all aspects of life as they unfold in the present moment.
    • To have more balance and to be less emotionally vulnerable.
    • Experience more calm and peacefulness in life.
    • Develop self-acceptance and self-compassion.
    • Improve focus and concentration.
    • Reduce the impact and influence of stressful thoughts and feelings.
    • Become aware of self-defeating thought process, and ‘LET THEM GO’.
    • Facilitate better relationships.

It has been clinically proven to benefit a wide range of clinical disorders, including chronic pain, anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, OCD, to name but a few.
